Tot School #6

Lucas is 15 Months
Tot School

We started our week off at my moms house (we went to stay at her house while my hubby was snowboarding!).  Lucas really enjoyed himself there, at first he was a little shy since we don't get to see my family that much... but it didn't take him too long to warm up to them.

This is my niece and her birds she brought the cage down to show Lucas, he really enjoyed that!

I don't think the birds were too thrilled though LOL!

as I was taking a picture he tipped the cage, thankfully not all the way over!

I think the birds were happy to have us leave : )

We also spent some time at the park (before the big snowstorm we got)

watching the water flow down the creek.

Lucas really enjoyed our time outside I cant wait till the weather is nice and we can spend A LOT more time outdoors!

I rotated our toys and books again this week, Lucas was very please to come across  this book. He has been carrying it around all week and loves for me to name the different animals for him.

Another toy he was happy to find is the magna-doodle. I had to take the small pieces away because he kept mouthing them.

He enjoyed scribbling

and making circles!

Then we played lego! he like for me to put all the pieces on the table and then he pulls them off, and vice versa.... We also say the colors while we do it, but to him they are all lelow (yellow).

This week I set up our craft table with play dough and some large wood beads, cut up straws, and popsicle sticks. It was a big hit!

Lucas enjoyed put the straws in  the play dough then pulling them back out. I would also bury the beads and he would dig them out.

Even big brother wanted to join in the fun!

and showed Lucas how to make a person.

love that face!!

We also tried painting at the easel

but I don't think he got the concept he wanted to paint at/on the table!

I've noticed a lot of other tot school families are doing themes with their tots and I am wondering at what age your began to introduce themes?  Do you go with a topic that your child is showing interest in or do you just pick something yourself?

I am thinking of starting to do themes with Lucas but Im not sure he'll be interested.

A Day At The Park

We had some beautiful weather last week so Lucas and I headed to the park.

He thought walking on the sand was funny.

He didn't want to touch the sand though....

He was trying to pick up the stick but every time he tried he got a handful of sand, he really didn't like the feel of the sand!

He also was not to fond of the swings!!

He was just content to run around in the sand...

I can't wait for more beautiful weather!!

Money Math

Recently I started giving Dominic an allowance, not much just a couple of coins here and there for doing some extra jobs that are not included in his daily chores. After I started doing this, right away I noticed that he didn't know which coins were which.  Yes he is almost 6 years old and this is something we should have worked on a looong time ago..... but we didn't!  So that's what we worked on today.

I gave him a container with a handfull of each quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies and a tray in which to sort them.

We sorted them out 4 times unil he was used to saying what each one was.

Then we counted how many of each coins there were and wrote it down in his math workbook and added up how much money there was in each set of coins.

I plan to do some more money activities with him over the next few days if anyone has any ideas/resources they would like to share I'd really appreciate it!

Tot School #5

Lucas is 15months
Tot School

This week in tot school....

We coloured with markers, Lucas likes to make a few scribbles here and there but he mostly likes to pull the lids off the markers and then put them back on.

I also introduced stamps to Lucas this week he is not very interested in them yet, I will try again in a few weeks.  He mostly just stuck his hands into the ink pad, I tried to show him to make handprints but he had zero interest in the as well!

One thing he did like to do was to stick his face in the ink...

Good thing its washable!!

A new house is being built behind us, Lucas has been enjoying watching the assortment of trucks that have working.

Lucas has always loved looking at books, but just recently he has been wanting them read to him. He used to run away when I read books, or get mad cause he wanted the page turned so he could see the next picture.  But over the past few days he has been brining books to me saying "dat! dat!" and then sitting in my lap to hear the story.

Lucas loves to explore EVERYTHING especially in the kitchen! He is forever going through the cupboards and drawers looking for some thing to play with.

Juice boxes are among his favourite

He likes to pull off the straws

and build towers

Lucas also likes to go through the tupperware cupboard...

and find "hats"

What a cutie!!

This week we also did some Valentines day crafts

starting with a collage

They had foam hearts, valentine confetti, and red and white ribbon scraps.

Then we painted.

You probably cant tell from the picture but there is a peice of contact paper on top of the construction paper he is painting.

Once his painting was dry I removed the contact paper to reveal this...

And our last bit of tot school..... life school.... is laundry!

Lucas always helps me put the dirty clothes in the washer, and he also likes to pass the clean clothes to me to put into the dryer. The other day I found him in the laundry room doing it all him self!

and then he even tried to start the machine, good thing there's a child lock : )

Tot School #4

Lucas is 15months
Tot School

I don't have many pictures for this weeks tot school,  it was a very crazy week for us!  Lucas has not been feeling to good, he has got a cold and also has some molars and eye teeth are coming in so all around he was a very cranky little guy. I did manage to capture a few fun moments though, so here they are:

I switched out our beans for some rice and lentils, he LOVES the sensory table and is always very excited to see something new in there to explore.

It was looking a little plain so I added our magnetic alphabet letters & numbers
to add a bit of colour and also a fun way to explore the alphabet!

Lucas came across this old tylenol bottle in our recycling bin, and has been playing with it ever since. He enjoys twisting the lid on and off, to make it more fun I gave him 5 small wooden balls to drop in and dump out.

Here he is putting the balls in and counting with daddy.

We tried to do a Valentines day sun catcher collage....

But he really had zero interest in it.

Instead he wanted to control the music....

He pushes the chair over to the shelf all the time to do this!

One toy he did enjoy this week was his animal cottage

I usually rotate our toys every 2 weeks, and he was very excited to see this toy come back out as its favorite around here.

And we did our yoghurt painting. You can read about it here

Lucas also started doing the sign for help this week!

Yummy FingerPaint

Today we did some finger painting with yoghurt...

He really enjoys doing activities where he can get messy like this!

If you are interested in doing this with your tot all you do is mix some plain yoghurt with some food coloring, and let them get to work!   You could also use vanilla pudding and food coloring or just plain chocolate pudding, but be prepared that they may eat that more then they paint with it!
