Last week when Dominic stayed home from school we got out a large sheet of paper, and some oil pastels and started doodling&scribbling

Once we were finished I gave Dominic some pink acrylic paint (watered down) to paint over top.

I love the hearts he drew!

Once it was dry we cut out the hearts, and traced and cut out the word Love.

Little Hands in the Kitchen - Omelets

Dominic and I have been cooking/baking something together at least once a week for the past few weeks. He absolutely loves it! This week he made omelets.
Dominic loves to cook and help out in the kitchen, and I know there are a lot of other kids out there that like to as well! So I have been thinking of starting a “Little Hands in the Kitchen” linky each week. Would anyone be interested in participating?

In the sensory tub this week...

For our sensory tub this week I rounded up some (waterproof) toys and then threw them into a plastic bowl with some water and froze it over night.

not the best picture, but you get the idea!

Then I filled our sensory table with water, food colouring, and baby soap.
I gave the kids some cups, spoons (big & small) and some other kitchen utensils, a ladle, silicone brushes, a whisk etc...

The kids really enjoyed this! We had a little friend with us for this activity, she loved using the whisk to make the bubbles reappear, and Lucas just liked being able to dump cups full of water on the ground without getting yelled at  - being told no. Dominic really liked using the brushes to melt away the ice he said he was an "archaeologist discovery new dinosaur bones and other ancient artifacts."

Coloured Salt

Dominic and I made some coloured salt last week - to make one of these.

Today we used some more to make pictures.

Dinosaurs of course!

a BEAUTIFUL mess!

Lucas joined in on the fun too...

I put the the salt  into old prescription bottles and poked some holes in the top. This is what we use as "sparkles" most of the time - cleanup is much easier!!

Dominics picture when he was finished.

and here it is again after it dried and we shook off all the extra salt.

Money Math

Recently I started giving Dominic an allowance, not much just a couple of coins here and there for doing some extra jobs that are not included in his daily chores. After I started doing this, right away I noticed that he didn't know which coins were which.  Yes he is almost 6 years old and this is something we should have worked on a looong time ago..... but we didn't!  So that's what we worked on today.

I gave him a container with a handfull of each quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies and a tray in which to sort them.

We sorted them out 4 times unil he was used to saying what each one was.

Then we counted how many of each coins there were and wrote it down in his math workbook and added up how much money there was in each set of coins.

I plan to do some more money activities with him over the next few days if anyone has any ideas/resources they would like to share I'd really appreciate it!

Heart Bouquet

Dominic and I got the idea to make this beautiful heart bouquet after seeing this one. We did ours a bit differently painting the hearts and adding some funky buttons, they turned out soo cute I just had to share!

Science Fun

Yesterday while Lucas was napping Dominic and I decided to try an activity from one of our science books that we borrowed from the library.  It was very easy simple and fun!

First fill a glass with water and top with some vegetable oil.

Then add a few drops of food colouring.

Sprinkle some salt on top.... and watch something cool happen!

Little Photographer

Dominic has developed a strong interest in taking pictures, so after I received a new camera for Christmas I gave him my old one. I have covered all the camera basics with him and now he is going picture crazy!

this one makes me dizzy!
I brought his camera when I picked him up from school so that he could take some pictures outside

He has been having lots of fun taking pictures of random things he takes pictures of everything from his toys to close ups of his brothers ears.

I told him that he has to ask permission before he takes someone's picture, we passed by some girls walking their dog and they gave him the OK, he was very excited

We are going to pick his favorite pictures and print them out and keep a photo journal, I think that'll be a great way to keep memories!

This is my favorite photo of his so far... Its got me thinking we should copy this idea and make a lego pirate adventure book.
